My Sculpture: Self-Portrait (Finished)

My Sculpture: Twisting Body

This is one of my favorite sculptures so far. Since the last sculpture I made, the one which depicted a nude woman sleeping peacefully on a piece of stone, cracked and failed eventually. I made this one by using a much better kind of clay, which is mixed with sand. During the process of making this sculpture, I pay much more attention to the woman's uperbody anatomy and the movement of muscles when an arm is stretched forward and the other stretched upward. I love the movement in this sculpture for the twist of waist, contraction of the right side and the stretch of left side.

My Sculpture: Abstract II

This is one of my extracurricular art works.
The main idea of making a sculpture like this is my aspiration of showing a sense of movement by using a sculpture.
The angle formed by the painful face and the unknown hand shows a kind of stable form in the structure of an unstanble form. The point where the hand and head meet leads to the empty part of the head, which implied the origin of the pain comes from the hand.
In another perspective, the face was made in a realistic way, but the hand was made in an abstract way. The balance of realy and fantacy is another essay made in this piece of work.

My Sculpture: Abstract I

This is one of my extracurricular projects.
Because I studied a little bit anatomy by myself after school, I was eager to commence a sculpture related the knowledge I learnt.
The first impression that this sculpture gave you maybe is the deformation of a triangle. That's right, this is exactly what I want to express in this art work, the formation of a human's arm, chest and head is a brilliant and beautiful triangle.
The reason why I only made a little portion of the arm and head can fully explain the main idea of this piece of work.
Another attempt I used in this sculpture is the use of movement. The strong emotion turing of head triggered the whole sculpture into life. I'm willing to try more about the idea of "beauty of movement" in my following art works.
As what my art teacher eventually pointed out, the flaw of this sculpture is the wrong size of arm which is obviously too big and head which tends to be too small.

My Sculpture: Classical Figure I

After successfully finishing my first sculpture in my life. I can't wait to start my next assignment: a classical male figure.
At the beginning, I planned to make a figure based on myself. I think the main reason is that I was confident in building up myself again.
As my work kept moving forward, I gradually realized that I lost the track of making myself. The beloved growing figure is losing my control, it tended to be an classical Greek male figure, protruding brow and nose in addition to the typical round forehead. Although the figure in front of me doesn't look like me anymore, I still have the feeling that I perfused my own feeling into my art work. Detail by detail, the brow slightly raised and a hidden track of tears surfaced, which potentially met the expression when I called my parents in China. No doubt, this art work is no longer a simple portrait building up, it became more and more personal.

Self Portrait- Sculpture

This is my first time officially stepping in the field of sculpture.
What surprised me alot is that I immediately fall in love with the world of sculpture.
My first sculpture assignment is a self portrait sulpture which came to be a great challenge to me. By learning the basic skills of building up a human like figure, I gradually get some practical tips and overall idea.
Because of the reason that I used to study figure sketching by myself, I can find the fundamental proportion of a human's face.
The interesting thing is, my art teacher even find a pair of glasses which looks like my own glasses. My self portrait looks more like me after wearing that pair of glasses.
Honestly speaking, I'm sincerely love this sculpture and I even came up the idea that the existence of this sculpture is the rebirth and reanalysis of myself.
The meaning of finishing this assignment is not just gaining some experience for myself but also opening the door of another kind of art and, in another word, a brand new way to express myself.
